Review: Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum

I’m not an expert when it comes to serums as I’ve only started trying them out this year. Serums are supposed to help your moisturizers or other skin care products work better, or if used alone, their molecules are supposed to be smaller, thus easier to be absorbed by the skin.

They’re also supposed to be more potent than regular moisturizers, so although they might be pricier, a little amount goes a long way! One serum I tried recently is the Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum With Willowherb, meant for skin undergoing a quarter-life crisis, meaning lack-luster, stressed skin in your mid to late ’20s. I am far from that age bracket, but my skin is stressed so I thought of trying this out.

Claim: According to the Origins website, Original Skin restores your vibrant, perfect glow in five ways:

1.De-stress. Persian silk tree helps skin rebound.
2. Smooth roughness. Chestnut seed extract refines texture.
3. Delete dullness. Willowherb restores glow.
4. Shrink pores. Algae helps reduce oil to help them appear to vanish.
5. Minimize flaws. Blurs imperfections.

Impression: I’ve only been using this sporadically for a week. The few times that I’ve used it (alone in the the morning, after cleansing, and before makeup application,) it seems to make my skin behave better so my makeup looks better. It does give you a brighter look! Makeup also seems to glide on better.

One thing I’ve noticed though is that it seems to ball up if you rub your face later in the day. Like it forms a barrier for your skin and pores to look smoother but also results to the product rubbing off like dead skin would if you rub your body. This happened when I used concealer and powder only, no foundation.

I haven’t had any breakouts or reactions to the product though and that is great news as my skin is quite sensitive. I think I need to use it longer to really benefit from its skin glowing properties.

Conclusion: It’s a serum worth trying if you are indeed going through a quarter-life skin crisis. It’s very light and non-irritating. It does give you a glow, makes your skin feel smoother, and pores less visible. It also makes the skin feel comfortably moisturized versus something overly rich and sticky. The packaging is pretty and easy to travel with. You might have to check if this works with your foundation or face base as it has the tendency to ball up and rub off with mine.
