What was your childhood dream? For Eleana Gabunada, Broadway was her ultimate goal. And it seems as if she’s rather close to achieving it. At the tender age of 10, she already managed to wow not one but several of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. Surely there won’t be any rain on her parade.
She’s always been into singing. Having taken part in The Voice Kids and Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids, Eleana is no stranger to the stage. Recently, she took a chance and auditioned for Asia’s Got Talent where she received the Golden Buzzer, from none other than acclaimed composer David Foster, for her larger-than-life rendition of “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”
According to Foster, what set Eleana apart was her mastery of skill. “There’s a lot of people much older than you that could sing that song but they don’t understand the genre, they don’t know what they’re supposed to be doing,” he said. “But somehow at the age of 10, you understand your mission and your job. And there’s no doubt in my mind that if you want to be in Broadway one day, you will be.”
Multi-awarded performer Anggun dubbed her as “Baby Streisand” while fellow judge and artist-extraordinaire Jay Park emphasized that it wasn’t easy to get Foster’s approval let alone receive a standing ovation. He’s seen the best of the best and still, she managed to impress him to the core! A rather amazing feat for someone so young.
Eleana’s story shows how dedication, determination, and courage can have an impact on one’s life let alone that of others. Wonderful things happen when you believe in yourself and pursue your passions. Even greater opportunities arise when you decide to take that first step and make things happen.
